Library Hours

During the regular Fall and Spring semesters, the library is opened Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. 

When classes are not in session, the library is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

During the summer when classes are in session, the library is open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday.  Saturday and Sunday the library is closed.

How do I check out a book or a DVD?

Books or DVDs can be checked out for two weeks either at the Circulation Desk of the Yeary Library, or at the Circulation Desk of the Zaffirini Library.

Accessing Journal Articles

Journal articles can be accessed from the library homepage, which can be found at library.laredo.edu.   Simply find “Databases” on the library homepage and the select the database you need. EbscoHost  is a good database to begin with.

Accessing electronic resource

Off-campus access to electronic resources is limited to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. To access an e-book, or database from off-campus you must first log in with your Laredo College ID and password. Your Laredo College ID was assigned to you during your initial enrollment or employment.

 

When you logon, you will be prompted to login using User ID and Password. Once you login, you will have access to the Off-Campus Access databases.  Use PASPort Credentials.

Computer Availability

Yes, there are several computers available for student use in both the Yeary and Zaffirini libraries.  Also, each library has a computer lab, offering even more computers. 

Calculators for Student Use

Yes, there are calculators for student use that can be checked out at the Circulation Desk of either library

Location of Photocopiers

The Yeary Library has two photocopy machines for student use, and the Zaffirini Library has two.

Scanners for Student Use

The Yeary Library has a scanner in the Corral, the computer lab located in the rear of the building.  The Zaffirini Library does not have a scanner, but the Learning Center on the top floor of the same building does.

Study Rooms

Yes, study rooms available in both the Yeary Library and Zaffirini Library.  To reserve a study room, visit our webpage, library.laredo.edu, and click on Study Room Booking. Study rooms are especially useful for those who want to engage in group discussion or study with minimal noise.

Reserve Item

A reserve item is a book or journal article that an instructor has put on reserve at the Circulation Desk for his or her class.  Because this item is in such heavy demand, the usual loan period is two hours or overnight.

Yeary Library and the Zaffirini Library

Yes, they are the same library, and they both report to the same library director.  The Yeary Library is located at the Fort McIntosh Campus, and the Zaffirini Library is located at the South Campus. Although each library houses different books and journals, they share the same online databases and automated system (called SIRSI).
