    • Abstract:
A literary criticism is presented of the 1801 English novel "Belinda," by Maria Edgeworth. Particular focus is given to the depiction of gender in the novel, including women's gender identity. An overview of the novel's portrayal of femininity and masculinity, including in regard to Edgeworth's belief that feminine behaviors derived from culture, is provided.
