    • Abstract:
The author of 'The Exploits of Robinson Crusoe' has used Le Comte's 'Memoirs and Observations,' Jean-Baptiste Du Halde's 'The General History of China' and Thomas Astley's 'A New General Collection of Voyages and Travels' as source material for descriptions of China. China is portrayed favorably without any of the prejudices found in Daniel Defoe's 'The Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe' and 'Serious Reflections of Robinson Crusoe.' The 1744-6 edition of Astley's work was the source for 'The Exploits.' It is difficult to specify the edition of Le Comte's and Du Halde's that was used.
