      A double hulled canoe with patched sails carries women to New Zealand. They are very keen to reach 'The land of the long low tweet-towoooo'. The leader takes an heroic stance as she points to the land and shouts 'Look girls! - MEN!!!' Several of the others are reading love stories. At bottom right are the words in brackets '(After C.F. Goldie's famous painting)'. Context - More than 125,000 migrants settled here during the 50s, the vast majority of them British and many of them single women. The painting that this cartoon alludes to is Charles Goldie and Louis Steele's 'The arrival of the Maoris in New Zealand'.
