    • Abstract:
This article presents the author's opinions on how people use animals as symbols and mascots for athletic teams, especially in college sports. The canids, felids, ruminants, mustelids and sea and swamp denizens that are used by colleges as their mascots are analyzed by the author. He believes that animals are loved as images because of the spiritual ways in which they matter to people.
