The article examines the seldom analyzed theme of homosexuality in the works of Nicolas-Edme Rétif de la Bretonne. In his novel "Le Paysan perverti," the function of a character's homosexuality within the novel was analyzed. It has been claimed that the association of pedagogy and homosexuality echoes Greek pederastic relationships.
