Booklist Reviews 2011 December #2

This second book in the Flappers series finds the girls in even more trouble, if possible. Gloria is in New York with Jerome, her musician (and African American) boyfriend. That's not working out too well. Jerome's sister, Vera, is going east to find them, but she's just witnessed a murder. And Lorraine's there to get back at Gloria, who had dumped their friendship. Yes, the flappers are in NYC, and booze, bullets, and bad boys are on the menu. Perhaps even more over the top than the first book (Vixen, 2010), this is a minxes-and-mayhem cross between Friends and Boardwalk Empire. Copyright 2011 Booklist Reviews.

Horn Book Guide Reviews 2012 Spring

After burning bridges in Chicago, Larkin's teenage flappers head to NYC. Clara's attempts to regain respectability are derailed by tabloid journalism; Lorraine's past betrayals have left her in debt to gangsters; and Gloria's dream of finding romance with Jerome remains elusive. Sparkling dresses, speakeasies, and a touch of Al Capone make up this implausible cocktail about the glamour of Prohibition.
