    • Abstract:
The article explores the relationship between plant size and earnings of manual workers in engineering. It provides an overview of the industrial and size distribution of plants, and a list of those industries which have been tested for the influence of size of earnings. The reasons for the willingness of an employer to share his gains from efficiency with his skilled and semi-skilled workforce rather than with the unskilled and females are given. It provides insight into the various theoretical explanations of the size effect.
