- Abstract:
This article discusses Australian company Fermiscan's research into the use of hair follicles for breast cancer detection, following a discovery that breast tumors can cause changes in the structure of women's hair. Fermiscan has begun to test the theory through a 2000-patient trial, hoping that the method can be developed to complement mammograms as a means of tumor detection. The use and problematic aspects of mammograms are also discussed.
