- Abstract:
The article illustrates the need for a more precise methodology in measuring the supply and demand for dental services in the U.S. Computing the population-per-dentist ratio is considered as the traditional approach for evaluating dental manpower needs in a given population. Several deficiencies on the use of population-per-dentist ratio in analyzing surplus and shortage areas are also offered. Furthermore, this study intends to apply a modification of Dr. Richard Mumma's approach to an existing population, as well as to connect the results with those acquired from the population-per-dentist ratio and dental busyness index.
