      A biography of American author Richard Milton McKenna is presented. He was born May 9, 1913 in Mountain Home, Idaho. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1931 and spent World War II as a petty officer on a troop transport ship in the Pacific. He intended on retiring after twenty years, but served an additional two years in the Navy during the Korean War. He graduated University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with high honors, married librarian Eva Grice, and published the novel "The Sand Pebbles." He died November 1, 1964.
